Often heard, rarely seen, it’s very hard to get a close encounter with a Ruru. It hangs out in dense forests, singing out its English name – more-pork. Silent flight is one of its superpowers along with the ability to rotate its neck 270 degrees, not to be creepy but to look for prey like moths, beetles, mice and lizards. Ruru’s big shining yellow eyes play an important part in Maori mythology and tradition. It’ll look amazing in your backyard especially with the full moon behind it.
