9 Carat Gold Plate on Bronze. Kara Kusa is literally translated as Foreign Botanicals. These designs arrived in Japan via the Eurasian Trade Routes and were altered to suit Japanese aesthetic. Stylized sideways unfurling lotus leaves in one country, honey suckle or grape vines in another.
