Amanita Fungi | Cathy Jane Designs
This piece is a sculptural embroidery version of the Amanita muscaria - or commonly known as the fly agaric mushroom, found all over New Zealand especially amongst pine forests.
Each piece is carefully pinned to perspex, and encased in a clear acrylic box like a preserved specimen.
Cathy Jane is a NZ artist who creates intricate handmade embroidery art inspired by nature. Combining a lifelong obsession with all of nature's creations with decades of experience in art and design, her artworks capture the beauty of NZ’s flora and fauna. Each art work is made up of hundreds of tiny stitches, made via hand stitching and on a simple sewing machine without a base fabric. The stitches are sculpted into shapes that represent a threaded version of Cathy’s found specimens, that are as close as possible to the real thing.
